If you plan on mixing in multiple locations, what kind of mic setup are your going with on what audio interface? Obviously, best case budget upgrade for you would be to put 2x 8GB sticks in = 16GB (2x8GB sticks gives better performance than 1x16GB), and put in there an SSD as the boot drive. In regards to RAM, have you got any large sample library instruments? Even then i expect 8GB would cope as they're all quite efficient - even large drum libraries. I'm sure a 5400RPM drive is capable of at least 100 tracks, as people used them years and years ago for 16-32 multitrack recordings on the move.Ĥ4k/16bit audio is around 0.2MB/s and i'm sure most (5400) laptop drives manage 50MB/s easy enough. If you hit any performance issues you can soon bounce down to audio. Just make sure that windows power settings are set to high performance or it may squash your CPU power.
