A two-seater car that has a classic sports car layout. The Cappuccino was everything you would expect from other cars in its segment.

The engine size was also less than 0.66-liters. This meant the body length was less than 3.3 meters and the width did not exceed 1.4 metres. Initially designed for the Japanese market only, the Cappuccino as it was now called was all built within the demands of the Kei car class. The car was initially known as the “project car” and after around two years of work, it was then shown off to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show. Suzuki had long held ambitions to create a sportier image for the brand, and the real work for this began in 1987. Not being in production since 1998 makes them a rarity now, and anyone who has one is very lucky indeed. Don’t let the name fool you, the Cappucino is a fantastic little car that offers as good levels of performance as the Honda Beat, and is one of the most coveted of all Kei cars. The Honda Beat is one of the most highly regarded sports Kei car but another that can often fly under the radar a bit is the Suzuki Cappuccino. Sporty Kei cars also exist and are some of the best there is. You don’t just get Kei cars for everyday use either. What makes them even better is the variety available. Plus, in rural areas, they are exempt from the requirement to certify that adequate parking is available for the car in question.

They are cars that allow their owners to benefit from various tax and insurance benefits thanks to their small size. For those who do not know, Kei cars are small city cars pretty much exclusively found in Japan. We don’t really want a modern Cappuccino, a somewhat retro, early 2000s “JDM survivor” look is what we’re aiming for.The Kei car is a segment that is grossly underrated across the world.

Plus the part is old enough to fit the spirit of the car. This means the unit takes up very little dashboard space, a critical requirement for a Cappuccino. The majority of the electronics are in a big control box that’s mounted under the dash, while a remote unit shows the boost reading and the cooldown time. Not only does it have a turbo timer, but it also has a built-in boost gauge and lap timer. We picked up a Blitz DTT on eBay to remedy this issue. Turbos for these cars are difficult to find and even harder to replace, so we wanted to minimize the chance of killing ours prematurely. After killing a turbocharger in our 240SX from not letting the oil cool, we really wanted a turbo timer in the Cappuccino. A single USB adapter is all we need to power electrical devices in 2020. We also hooked up the original cigarette lighter which had been disconnected for a three socket unit previously. We had to resort to wedging our phone between the seat and the center console before we installed this pocket. There was zero phone storage in the Cappuccino before. It’s big enough to hold a cell phone and that’s what’s important. With the pocket screwed in and all of the surrounding trim installed, the result is almost factory. If they could hold the radio in, they’ll hold our much lighter pocket perfectly. These rather crappy brackets came off our old radio. With a little ingenuity, this kit can be adapted for Cappuccinos as well. This particular kit is designed to work with Toyotas, Nissans, and some Volvos. To keep things sanitary and to add some useful storage to the Cappuccino, we bought a DIN-sized dash pocket. Removing the radio obviously left an ugly hole in the dashboard. This was done in part to shave a bit of weight, but we were also unsure of our head unit’s functionality after being shorted. In our previous installment, we decided to remove the radio and speaker from the Cappuccino. So before we finished installing the interior for the final time, here are the parts we installed to make the interior of our Cappuccino just a little bit nicer to live with.

While taking apart most of the entire interior to diagnose and repair a wiring short, we realized there were a few items we should install to improve our Cappuccino. Project Cappuccino: Blitz DTT and Wrapping Up The Interior
